Downside: The board. It can be a real pain to set up. Upside: The board. It is ever-changing and can give your lego-crazy kid hours of enjoyment. And when he's done, you can play the game!
Seriously, this is war games simplified but still challenging. We got hooked on minis games with Lord of the Rings minis. The rules here are a bit easier, and you don't have to buy battle maps. Part of the reason we bought it was because you know exactly what you're getting in an expansion, and you don't have to buy a thousand random packs to get the minis you want. You can invent your own twists to the game (some suggested in the rule book, some online, and some come with expansions, but if you agree on the rules ahead of time, this game can never be the same twice, if that's how you want it).
That said, I must express this caveat: we rarely pull it out, just because of the intensive setup. If that doesn't bother you, I highly recommend it. Also: you'll need a nice big plastic storage bin (ours has drawers) to organize all the stuff, especially if you buy expansions! |
