Lost cities is a good card game for couples which only suffers a little for lack of theme.
Play is as simple as play a card, take a card (repeat until you are through the deck), but presents players with interesting choices every turn: Do I discard this green card, and risk my opponent making use of it, or do I play this white card before I'm ready? Gameplay can be quick, but may get a bit bogged down the first few games as players learn what works and what does not.
My only hesitation, as mentioned above, is that there really isn't any theme to the game. The game could be just as easily played with a regular deck of playing cards (if there were five suits), and gameplay wouldn't change a bit. Scoring also takes a while to explain at the end of the game, but the instructions provide a great illustration showing all of the possible combinations and effects.
That being said- the card art is truly beautiful, and there is a deepness to this game that is hard to relate without playing it a couple of times yourself. Also- this is easily the most-played game in my house (and can even be played while feeding a baby, if you have card holders). If you don't own it, run on down to Uncle's and playtest. Trust me, it is worth it. |
