These
1864 Era Playing Cards are a reproduction of an old Civil War poker deck. The box image shows a pair of one-cent tax stamps, hand-cancelled on June 2, 1864. Made up of 52 cards (no jokers), this deck includes a replica of L.I. Cohens original design of the ace of spades, as well as a standard version.
Number cards display only the suit symbols--no numbers--which is a bit like counting dice pips at a glance. Face cards show full-length court figures with the suit marked on one end, for a definite right-side-up orientation. (See inset photos.)
Use this deck as a fun, educational tool or theme prop. Or just enjoy the feel of a historical connection with gamers of a bygone era!
