Transmitted from host to host by the tsetse fly, Trypanosoma brucei is a protozoa that causes Sleeping sickness. Symptoms start with fever, headaches, and joint pain. Winterbottom's sign (hugely swollen lymph nodes on the back of the neck) may appear next. If left untreated, victims will experience increasing confusion, reduced coordination, slurred speech, and of course, extreme fatigue. Without treatment, coma and death are assured. So when the sandman comes tonight, let's hope he doesn't come in the form of a tsetse fly!
