The Farming Game, invented by farmer and author George Rohrbacher, is an agricultural economic boardgame. It has similar concepts to the popular board game Monopoly, however the spaces contain plots of land instead of real estate. When George Rohrbacher invented the game in central Washington 1979, he and many other farmers where struggling with rising costs of overhead coupled with three years of drought. Many were forced to work other jobs while simultaneously performing farm duties on the nights and weekends. These people were known as "the Weekend Farmer," whose goal was to eventually save enough money to farm full time.

The goal in this game is to build a profitable farm large enough to sustain itself, without you working a second job or going broke. Your net assets must reach $250,000 for you to win. Each square on the gaming track represents a week, and once around the board represents a year. The game contains enough acreage for up to six players to diversify into the various agriculture commodities (grain, hay, and fruit) and cattle ranching. With each harvest comes new expenses, such as equipment maintenance, fertilizer and seeds, labor, and others. The success of your crops will be determined by the roll of the dice.

This is an addicting board game where family members can "plow the back forty on the kitchen table"! It is also an excellent teaching aid which has been utilized in schools throughtout the world. Perfect for farmers or city folk alike!
