This is a fantastic game for children even just beginning to learn their letter sounds. Since you make 3-letter-words, it does not seem too unapproachable for children, and for adults the challenge is in finding an esoteric combination that makes you use the most uncommon 3-letter-words you can think of. Our 5-year-old loves this game, and our 3-year-old plays along as much as he can, using the letter sounds and help from the 5-year-old to make his own word. (His challenge is assembling the letters in a word -- for example, putting the R in front of the U, and the G last to make RUG.
The game has a great prop in the letter dispenser that makes a satisfying "ka-chunk, ka-chunk" kind of sound when it is pulled forward and back to reveal the next 2 letters. The kids love to use it.
You get two letter tiles from the dispenser, and you need to find a card with a single letter on it that allows you to make a word.
This game is great for 5-9-year-olds, and especially good for beginning readers. For older children, it is a nice introduction to a kind of Scrabble idea that would bridge nicely to the game of Scrabble or Boggle.
